WebMar 19, 2024 · Here is a caveat: Distinguishing a Trumpeter Swan from the Tundra Swan (that winters in great numbers in the Lake Mattamuskeet region of Hyde County and in the water impoundments of the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge) can be tricky. Several good birders I checked with and reviewed the photos I sent, agreed this bird is a Trumpeter.
