My original number only had 2 sig figs and there are way too many on my calculator. So what to do? You might think to say the answer is –4.6 and be done. Yeah, it looks like 2 sig figs, but it's not. It is only 1 sig fig because that number is a logarithm. You need another digit to be accurate to 2 sig figs.
